Jon Rappleye: Fantastic Planet, September 18

Dolphin Press and Print,Lectures — printmaking @ 8:46 am, Friday, August 29th, 2008

Thursday, September 18, 5–7 pm in Brown 320, Brown Center

Painter and sculptor Jon Rappleye brings his fantastical world to campus during the fall semester as he discusses his art-making process, techniques, and inspiration at a free, public lecture.

The Jersey City, N.J.-based artist describes the creatures and strange hybrid phenomena that occupy his acrylic paintings and vitreous china sculptures as a “homespun fairy tale, a recreation of cultural folklore, and a personal mythology.”

Rappleye’s talk is part of his semester-long residency with MICA’s printmaking department. He is working with students in the do-it-yourself course, Studio Remix: A Dolphin Press Collaboration, which focuses on hand-pulled prints and explores all aspects of print shop collaboration. Students will work one-on-one with Rappleye during his visits to campus and execute a limited edition suite of prints of his work.
