The Complex of All of These video

Department, Publications, Resources, cool, video — KVH @ 9:14 am

Ok, so this is just great.

Abigail Uhteg, MICA Printmaking alumna, former Undergraduate Dolphin Press Coordinator, and first webmistress of the micaprintmaking.com site, compiled 3000 photographs in a fabulous stop-motion video documenting the making of The Complex of All These, her artist book, made during her residency at The Women’s Studio Workshop this past summer. It involves intaglio, letterpress, bookbinding, papermaking, and a hell of a lot of craft. There’s something for everyone! 3000 photographs of artist’s book goodness.

Here it is in HQ, but click the full-screen button to enjoy it even more!

EDIT: The MICA Library bought one  - you should request to see it in person!

New York City PRINT WEEK is HERE!

Department — KVH @ 5:28 pm

We’re  just a week away from NYC Print Week 2009. Just enough time to snag a ticket on Bolt Bus, or Apex, or MVP – whichever discount, occasionally-on-time bus you prefer.  If you’re feeling a little rich, there’s the train, and if you’re feeling poorer, there’s carpooling with your friends.

Either way, you should plan ahead for next weekend in NYC. If you care at all about Printmaking, it’s the place to be. First up to bat is the IFPDA Print Fair. Thursday through Sunday, (Nov 5-8th), this is the uptown exhibition that costs money to get into (Students = $10, so relax). The exhibitors list is extensive, and tickets are available here.

Then there’s the Editions / Artists’ Books Fair from Nov. 6-8 (Fri-Sun). This one is downtown, and is free. The exhibitors list is also extensive.

There are even more events around the city that just happen to coincide with the weekend. But we can tell you about this more as the week progresses and after you book your bus tickets.

The exchange is showcasing at least 10 current and former MICA students, staff, and faculty, including Lou Joseph,  Ursula Minervini, and yours truly. (There are probably more MICA-related people in the show than that even.)

Once again, the opening is 6-8 THIS Saturday. The show is up through November 6, and the gallery is located at 1825 N. Charles, just half a block below North Avenue.  See you there!

Bill Fick visit a HIT!

Department, Lectures, cool — KVH @ 8:31 am

Bill Fick visited our studios Monday and Tuesday of this week and brought a huge pile of prints, dating back through 10 years of work, to showcase and talk about in 3 of our classes.

Bill Fick, striking full zombie pose...

Very graciously, he also brought with him some of his trademark linoleum blocks to print from. Unsatisfied with standard paper-printing, the visit turned into a tshirt-printing-free-for-all.

Unbeknownst to many, a writer for Printeresting.org was on hand to document it all. Be sure to check out their write-up on our T-shirt Extravaganza!
