Visiting Artist Bill Fick!

Department — KVH @ 2:56 pm, Monday, October 1st, 2012

Printmaker, lino-carver extraordinaire, and all-around great guy Bill Fick will be in Baltimore this week, and visiting the Printmaking Dept this coming THURSDAY, October 4th.

Bill Fick’s work centers around grotesque heads of mummies, rats smoking cigars, demons, and skulls, all meticulously carved on a larger-than-life scale. His drawings are intricate, and his work is unmistakable.

This Thursday he’ll be giving an artist talk at 12:30 PM in the Etching/Relief Studio, D101, followed immediately by a printing demo using his blocks. The demo is hands-on for all participants, and students are encouraged to bring a blank t-shirt to print ONTO (you read that correctly!). He’s done this before with the MICA Printmaking Dept, and it is a lot of fun. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Here is a fun video illustrating his printing process, start to finish:

And THEN – if that wasn’t enough for you, Bill Fick is the guest of honor at Litho Shop on Friday evening. Litho Shop is an fine-arts print shop specializing in artist editions located in Hampden, and owned and operated by friend of the department Brian Garner.

You can get to Litho Shop via the Light Rail. Get off at the Woodberry Stop, and then walk through Clipper Mill to Parkdale Ave. Litho Shop is in the large mill on the corner of Clipper Park Rd. and Parkdale Av. and is accessible via the steep sloped driveway to the left of the building. More details will be available here and here.
