Spring Semester 2013

Department — KVH @ 10:28 am, Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Welcome back everyone!

We trust that a 5 week winter break has treated you well, and that you’re back, well rested and recharged for a new semester.

We’ve been working hard this past month getting ready for you.

First – an announcement: If you are hoarding drawers on the first floor (Etching & Litho), WE NEED THEM BACK. This includes any Seniors with ANY drawers, any Major with more than two drawers (that’s more than 2 anywhere in Dolphin), or anyone else, Concentrator or otherwise, with more than 1. We have current students without any drawers at all – and that’s not fair. If you have extra drawers, see Kyle at your earliest convenience.

Then – few updates to share with you:

Starting as you walk into Dolphin: We have new fire doors on the front entrance and up the front stairwell. These are all a marked improvement to what came before. The card swipe should be working for everyone like before, there’s a new right-hand exit door, and the stairwell doors are now one-hand operational. Please remember: these are fire doors. Do not prop them open into the stairwell.

The Etching / Relief studio got a small reorganization. The classroom side has been reworked slightly, and a new 4-foot-square ink palette has found a home on the studio side. Please utilize it as you see fit.

In silkscreen we installed a brand new exposure unit vacuum blanket. It is fantastic, and is holding suction like never before. Please treat it nicely so that all may enjoy for years to come. Also in screenprinting: loose hinge-clamps were tightened, and the vacuum tables were worked on to perform a little more reliably.

Here on the site we are updating information on various pages. We’ve also added a new calendar, visible on the right side bar, and on a new Calendar page. It’s all google-based, so you should be able to add important dates to your own calendar with ease. We’ll keep them updated with important campus and departmental dates that you should know about, including exhibitions, trips, and enrollment deadlines. Please check it periodically.

A change in scheduling for the building: This semester’s Continuing Studies class will be meeting in the Etching studio on Saturday mornings from 10AM -1:30PM. This Saturday morning time-slot should be the best suited time within a week for everyone. Please adjust your weekend homework time accordingly to accommodate.

Thanks to all our returning workstudy, student helpers, and TIs for jumping back in with enthusiasm, and thanks also to everyone who ate our free pizza and helped to clean the studios this past December. We’ve deemed it a success and we’ll be doing it again in May.

Thanks all – have a great semester.
