WPG Excellence in Printmaking

competition,Department,Exhibitions — KVH @ 4:05 pm, Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

The 4th Annual Washington Printmakers Gallery Excellence in Printmaking Exhibition just came down from display in their gallery in Silver Spring, MD.

While we’re a bit late with the news, we’re thrilled to announce that this year, their Grand Prize was awarded to our very own Jackie Riccio for her piece Crest.

Crest is a 10-color blend roll monoprint.

The exhibition was curated by Christopher With. You can view the top 4 awarded pieces here, and read a little bit more here about their Excellence in Printmaking exhibition series.

Tamarind bound 2014!

Department,Majors — KVH @ 11:09 am, Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

Congratulations to Printmaking major Jackie Riccio (2014) and alumnae Danielle Blevins (2012) on their acceptance to Tamarind in Fall 2014!

Tamarind Institute, part of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, is a one and two year certificate program focused exclusively on Lithographic printing, whose goal is to create a growing pool of master printers.

MICA has been fortunate to maintain a relationship with Tamarind over the past 5 and 10 years, having seen a number of our alumni accepted into their program. We’re thrilled to see these two talented and deserving printers follow in those footsteps and step up to this new challenge. If the levels of abilities and craft gained by previous MICA/Tamarind alumni is any indication, these two will thrive in this new environment.

Congratulations again, we’re proud of you, and know you’ll represent MICA well!

MICA CARES Food Drive!

competition,Department,FUN! — KVH @ 12:00 pm, Monday, February 17th, 2014

The third-annual MICA CARES Food Drive is in full swing.

The Maryland Food Banks see a deep drop in donations every year after the holidays. February is the worst month, and MICA is pushing to help where it can.

A donation box is located in the 3rd floor hallway of Dolphin (as are many more around campus!). You can find ours located on top of the hallway fridge, next to the faculty office.

The Food Drive is only for the length of February, so time is running out. Please bring non-perishable items to donate.

Items can include:

  • Canned meat
  • Peanut Butter
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Canned stews
  • Canned tuna, salmon, sardines
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Dried or canned beans
  • Oatmeal & Breakfast cereal
  • Rice & Rice cakes
  • Pasta
  • Canned fruits & juices
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned soup
  • Sauces & Salad dressings
  • Evaporated or Powdered milk.

See Kyle if you have any questions!

Department,Meetings — KVH @ 11:16 am, Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

Welcome back everyone!

Happy 2014!

After a weather-induced bumpy start to the new school year, we’ve now finally into the start of our second full week. Classes are getting up to speed, and the studios are all stocked, reset, and ready for whatever you’ve got.

We will be holding an all-department meeting this coming Wednesday, February 5th at 2:15 PM. We have a whole semester’s topics to cover – exhibitions, visiting artists, events, lectures, and much more! As always, this is mandatory for all Majors and Concentrators. We’ll be done before 4PM classes (and probably much earlier).

See you there!

turkey day!

Thanksgiving Break is nearly here!

The school hours for all campus buildings have arrived. Here you go:

Wednesday: No classes. Campus buildings close early at 7 PM.
Thursday – Saturday: All campus buildings are closed (except for a few Grad-level studios).
Sunday: Buildings reopen on their normal schedules. Classes resume Monday.

That’s it – plain and simple — a nice long break for everyone.

Plan for it, take work home, and otherwise enjoy some time off.
Also, please enjoy this amazing “Thanksgiving Postcard” Google Image search. So weird and awesome.
