If a Dolphin Press internship interests you, but you are saving your application for the spring semester, you can apply now for a spring internship. The deadline for early spring applications is next Friday, the 25th of September at 5:00pm. You will still be able to apply for a spring internship at the beginning of next semester, but be aware that positions may already be filled by that time.
If you missed the deadline for fall applications you can still apply, because we will be accepting applications for fall internships along with early spring applications. Same deadline applies. This is the last call. Download the application here, and indicate which semester you are applying for in your email.

Dolphin Press & Print is a unique collaborative print studio that is designed to bring visual artists and writers together to work with students, producing limited-edition letterpressed books, broadsides and editioned prints in a variety of print media.
The Dolphin Press Internship Program provides MICA students with curricula-based professional development skills and allows students to interact with one another and with the Visiting Artist Programming connected with the press.
Working collaboratively with peers and seasoned professional printers, solving complex problems and administering business and marketing duties at the press are the primary focus of this internship.
The internship program is administered by Co Directors Whitney Sherman, Chair of the Illustration Department and Gail Deery, Chair of the Printmaking Department at MICA.
The Dolphin Press & Print website can be visited at http://www.dolphinpressandprint.com/
Interns will report weekly to the Dolphin Press Coordinator and the Paper Studio Coordinator.

The very fine folks at
www.issuu.com have offered MICA, and
Dolphin Press the opportunity to publish, and YOU
to VIEW the artist book editions from our collection
online!
Below are our two latest editions, the top by Christopher Whittey called Industry Culture, and the second by Michael Bartalos called Vostok.
They are most definitely best viewed full-screen!

Please help us welcome our new Dolphin Press & Print interns Z Groshong, Erin Wallace, and Christiane Moore. We are happy to have them as part of the team for this semester working on the editioning of the Jon Rappleye collaboration and research and development in the paper studio for future projects. Congratulations!

One of the benefits of being a well known department in a well known school is that people off campus have heard of you. With some frequency, people call the Dolphin Building to donate something; in the past it’s been as simple as some supplies from their basement, or something as great as a new litho or etching press (One of each in 2007!)…
This week’s donation has been paper. 2 car loads and probably 1000lbs later, we are up to our ears in the stuff. Don’t get too excited yet, we still need to sort and collate it, but I guarantee a decent portion will filter down to students. A greater portion will be reserved for department projects, class projects, and sundry other uses.
Extra special thanks goes out to SDYM Inc for their donation of 10 years-worth of paper samples, and to Furst Printers for their donation of a mis-shipment of Strathmore cover. You both rock!
Anyone else out there interested in donating to our department can reach me at kvanhorn |at| mica.edu.

Painter and sculptor Jon Rappleye brings his fantastical world to campus during the fall semester as he discusses his art-making process, techniques, and inspiration at a free, public lecture.
The Jersey City, N.J.-based artist describes the creatures and strange hybrid phenomena that occupy his acrylic paintings and vitreous china sculptures as a “homespun fairy tale, a recreation of cultural folklore, and a personal mythology.”
Rappleye’s talk is part of his semester-long residency with MICA’s printmaking department. He is working with students in the do-it-yourself course, Studio Remix: A Dolphin Press Collaboration, which focuses on hand-pulled prints and explores all aspects of print shop collaboration. Students will work one-on-one with Rappleye during his visits to campus and execute a limited edition suite of prints of his work.

Dolphin Press & Print is proud to welcome Jon Rappleye as this semester’s resident artist. He will be collaborating with the students of the Illustration Department’s Studio Remix class and Dolphin Press & Print interns and staff. See more of his work here.
