Join us this coming Monday, March 30th, 5-6:30pm, for the 2015 Annual Printmaking Juried Exhibition opening reception! The show hangs in the Rosenberg Gallery, 2nd fl Brown.

The exhibition was juried by Cynthia Thompson and David Chioffi, and is on display March 25th through April 5th.

Spring Break 2015

Spring Break starts in a few days, so we’re posting info about studio hours and access.

The Dolphin Building will be open from 7am – 11pm for the duration of Spring Break. This holiday schedule begins Friday, March 13th, and continues through Saturday night, March 21st. Regular building hours resume on Sunday, March 22nd.


Printer hours are available, but not the full schedule. Printer hours are as follows:
Sunday, March 15th 4-8PM,
No printer hours Monday.
Thursday, March 19th, 2-6pm
No printer hours Friday. 
Sunday March 22nd, 4-8pm

Workstudy and staff will be on a holiday schedule as well, which means some services will continue as usual, and some may not. Please be diligent about cleaning up after yourself.

ALLOVERSTREET – October 10, 2014 7-10pm
A monthly evening of simultaneous openings and events spanning the many arts spaces of East Oliver Street in The Station North Arts and Entertainment District.

Alloverstreet (City Paper’s “Best Art Walk that Doesn’t Suck” 2014) is back with the biggest and best installment to date. This month’s event features 10 exhibitions and events spanning 9 arts spaces. This Alloverstreet will introduce an art walk hub at Area 405’s outdoor dock with food, music and information about the night’s event including a new printed gallery guide and self-guided tour map. Additionally, from 8-10, visitors can enjoy a free ride from Alloverstreet to the Idling @ Dusk event at Penn Station and back in a designated taxi cab; a collaboration between Alloverstreeet and Living Station Nights. Alloverstreet exhibitions and events include:

This Saturday and Sunday marks the return of the Small Press Expo (SPX), a great opportunity to interact with hundreds of independent creators and publishers directly. SPX’s programming features panels like “Micro­Press and Beyond,” “Sex, Humor, and the Grotesque,” and guests such as: Lynda Barry, Jillian Tamaki, Jules Feiffer, and Box Brown (who will be at MICA on September 29).

Juried Printmaking Exhibition opens March 11!

The Printmaking Department is pleased to present On The Mark, the 2014 Juried Undergraduate Printmaking Exhibition.  This year, the exhibition was curated by Laura Beth Langley.  She says  “looking at the diversity of works that were submitted for this exhibit, I chose impressions that emphasized a purposeful mark found only in printmaking and works that express the essential character of the medium”.   Please join us March 11 from 3-5pm for the opening!


Print Weekend Baltimore, 2014

This is a busy weekend for exhibitions here in Charm City.

First and foremost, the 5th annual Print and Multiples Fair, hosted by Open Space is taking place Saturday and Sunday.


PMF is being held at the D Center, at 16 W. North Ave (next door to Baltimore Print Studios), Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9, from 12-6PM.

This is a huuuuge event, spanning multiple venues, 80+ vendors, music, sculpture, readings, interactive events, and so much more than we can list here. Details on all of the events can be found on this extensive Tumblr post.

Then, to get yourself in the mood…

Pregame your PMF weekend with Friday night openings on East Oliver St. The new,  ALLOVER STREET, presented by Process Collective is this Friday. Allover Street is a monthly series of simultaneous openings on E. Oliver St.


This month’s events include a print show called Black & White, curated by MICA Printmaking folk (Sonja Solvang, Marines Montalvo, Hunter-Savoy Jaffe & Marcel Mandeng), and exhibiting many more  (too many to mention!!).

Presented by Open Plough Market and Friends of Ibn Firnas, it’s a print & multiples fair focusing on the DIY, radical, and homegrown. This show was also organized by, and showcases many of our Printmaking Majors and Concentrators. Don’t miss it!

MICA CARES Food Drive!

The third-annual MICA CARES Food Drive is in full swing. 

The Maryland Food Banks see a deep drop in donations every year after the holidays. February is the worst month, and MICA is pushing to help where it can.


A donation box is located in the 3rd floor hallway of Dolphin (as are many more around campus!). You can find ours located on top of the hallway fridge, next to the faculty office.

The Food Drive is only for the length of February, so time is running out. Please bring non-perishable items to donate.

Items can include:

  • Canned meat
  • Peanut Butter
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Canned stews
  • Canned tuna, salmon, sardines
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Dried or canned beans
  • Oatmeal & Breakfast cereal
  • Rice & Rice cakes
  • Pasta
  • Canned fruits & juices
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned soup
  • Sauces & Salad dressings
  • Evaporated or Powdered milk.
