Second State Press is pleased to offer the Cindi Royce Ettinger Scholarship to the printmaking community. Each June the studio will host an artist whose work demonstrates an uncommon grasp of the printmaking medium and an energetic approach that will likely influence future printmakers. This opportunity is meant to provide professional facilities to emerging artists who lack financial resources and access to equipment.

The candidate chosen to receive the scholarship will be granted 24 hour access to the facilities at Second State Press for the entire month of June, two flat file drawers in which to store paper and supplies, a modest stipend, and all critical feedback that membership in a communal print shop like SSP provides. It is requested that two prints from an edition generated during the month be donated to permanent collections belonging to CR Ettinger Studio and Second State Press.

The DayGlo colors of Globe Poster are being exhibited at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall right now, and MICA is hosting a closing reception for the show Tuesday, March 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibit covers Globe’s astonishing output of hard-working posters for music — from James Brown through Run DMC and Rare Essence — to carnival and politics. Dozens of posters and several banners created by Globe during its long history were hung at the Meyerhoff as a “welcome to the neighborhood” exhibit honoring MICA’s recent purchase of the Globe collection.

Please join us for the exhibit and light refreshments, cash bar, raffles of posters created for the exhibit, and the sale of Globe Classic posters.
