While you are no-doubt lollygagging your summer away, we’re working hard on preparing the studios for this fall.

While most things aren’t changing too quickly here, a major difference will be Book Arts.

The Book Arts facilities in Dolphin have moved! Flat files, book presses, and the board shears have all been relocated to the Station Building.

There is now a dedicated Book Arts space in Station. This will afford everyone a little more elbow-room in Dolphin, a little more room in Book Arts, and more studio time across the board.

The photo above is from the old plaster room in Station. We’ve taken over that room and Station 101, the first classroom next to the guard desk. We have a sink, AC, doors that lock, and nice big work tables for you. There will be a new (well, old) guillotine for you in the space as we didn’t want to move the big one from Dolphin (that board shears was enough).

Papermaking and Letterpress remain in Dolphin.

We hope you love it…

This is it, the end of the semester, Spring 2010.

I have received a number of e-mails and questions regarding the last days to access the building, work, etc.
Here it goes, please pay attention:

The LAST DAY TO WORK in the Dolphin Printmaking Studios this semester is FRIDAY, May 7th. The workstudy and I will be shutting down the shop at 5 PM sharp.

And yes, this means everybody. No exceptions, no nothin’. Sorry.

The last day for ACCESS to Dolphin is Sunday, May 9th. This means you have Saturday and Sunday to clean out your drawers and lockers. Your cards will turn back into pumpkins at 8 PM that day.

SENIORS PRINTMAKING MAJORS - you are the solitary exception. You will have building access only (not print-access) until Thursday, May 13, the day your Senior Exhibition opens. YOUR cards will cease to work at 8PM that day.

-This means there is no emulsion, no ink, no solvents, no nothing after Friday May 7th.

-The last day for printing films is Thursday May 6th.

-Any and all supplies left behind will become property of the department. If you have personal screens, take them home. Your own ink? take it home. You get the picture.

Majors and Concentrators, if you have a MAJOR or CONCENTRATOR labeled drawer, you might be able to keep it. Come ask me, or risk having it all disappear.

ALSO! A warning to all: This is ALWAYS the time that screens and supplies are stolen from the shop! If your screen, drawer, or locker is unlocked, please take your things home at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your undivided attention – have a fantastic summer! For reading this far, I’ll reward you with a photo of Moroccan Goats who climb trees:

**EDITED >> See Below!**

Welcome to the end of semester S U P E R C R U N C H !!!

A few things we want to pass along.

We know that buildings on campus are open 24 hours. However, we are keeping ours on on the usual 7AM – 2AM times.

Let me say that again. BUILDING HOURS WILL BE FROM 7AM – 2AM.

Why you ask? Because only bad things happen in this space after 2AM. You’re tired, equipment breaks, no one’s here to troubleshoot, things get stolen or lost or whatever. It’s just bad news. Don’t kid yourself, you know it’s true.

I’m sorry but that’s just how it is. Please remember are MANY times during the week that studios are unoccupied. For example:

Etching is open:
Wednesday from 2PM – 2AM
Thursday from 3PM – 6PM

Litho is open:
Monday 7AM – 4PM
Wednesday 2PM – 2AM
Thursday 3PM – 2AM

Screenprinting is open:
Monday 3PM – 2AM
Thursday 8PM-2AM

EDIT>> FRIDAYS ARE OPEN TO MAJORS, CONCENTRATOR, AND ANYONE IN CLASSES!
Come in and work!

Then of course everything is open from 10PM – 2 AM, and all weekend. For those of you particularly upset about this, remember that if you go to bed early, the shop is nearly EMPTY on Saturdays + Sundays before noon.

As far as the last day for access, the building will shut down on Sunday, May 9th. Details on this will be sent out as that date approaches.

Thanks all, good luck on all of your finals. Kyle.

Greetings from Career Development!

With summer right around the corner, many of you are confirming summer plans. For some, this may include an internship experience — fabulous! There have been some recent changes to the internship program that we’d like to share with you.

If you are planning on receiving credit for an internship (at any time of year!), you need to visit the Joseph Meyerhoff Center for Career Development before the internship starts to formalize the experience. The office is located on the second floor of the Gateway Building. You will receive an internship packet including the Learning Contract. The contract requires signatures from you, your department chairperson, the internship site supervisor, and lastly, Courtney Resnick, the Internship Coordinator at Career Development. The contract must be turned in before or within two weeks of the internship start date. Obtaining signatures can take some time, so make sure you plan this out in advance because late contracts will not be accepted! If you are leaving Baltimore for the summer and find an internship in another city, you can still get credit for your experience — you just have to call our office before your internship starts and we’ll work out the details with you.

In addition to the Learning Contract, there are other required assignments, which are outlined in the internship packet and will be explained to you when you visit our office. If you have any questions, please visit our website at www.mica.edu/careerdevelopment, email our office at careerdevelopment@mica.edu, or call us at 410.225.2420. We look forward to hearing about your internship experiences!

Those receiving critiques have already been chosen, but we are encouraging anyone interested (this means YOU) to sit in and participate at these times.

Critiques will be approximately 45 minutes long.

If you are remotely interested in the world of contemporary print, you will be sorely disappointed if you miss this.
